Praise You In This Storm

Starting with a prayer

I think that we should start the day with a prayer for everyone affect by the terrible storm on the east coast.

“Merciful Father we ask that you put a blanket of protection over all the lives that will feel the wrath of the storm. We know that you have a plan but when we are in the eye of the storm it is hard for us to see so please fill our hearts with faith. Calm our hearts and lessen our fears. We know that things can be replaced but our people cannot so please protect us. We also ask that you protect those who can not protect themselves, the young, the old and the disabled. Protect the animals who we sometimes forget to put a value on. Jesus slept during one of the most intense storms, please give us the same peace. In Jesus name, amen”

Here Comes The Storm

A storm is wreaking the west coast of the United States at this very moment. People are scrambling, panicked and scared. I’ve never experienced anything like what they must be going through.

I live in Texas and we don’t really get extreme weather except for ridiculous heat. On Friday my friends and I sat at lunch while it poured down rain outside. I cleared up within an hour and we headed to our cars without getting wet. We thought we had been through a storm. It was nothing compared to what our friends and families will be facing over the next few days.

The Eye Of The Storm

I was listening to KLOVE this morning and they were giving advice on what to do during the storm and what to pack when you had to evacuate. I can’t even imagine having to walk through my house and pick the things that are most important to me. It’s heartbreaking to even think about.

They also said that when the eye of the storm hits everything will go quiet and still. Oddly enough they said to run out and pick up as much debris as you can so that when the rest of the storm hits there will be less stuff to fling through the air.

I’m not a meteorologist so if I am wrong about that, I am pointing the finger elsewhere. I’m just a repeater. I myself would not run out and pick up the debris, I would be hiding like a scared child.

I know for a fact that the one thing I would do for sure is pray.

Time To Pray

When a storm hits my life and all seems to be hopeless and lost there is only one thing that I can be sure of and that’s my Heavenly Father.

Life can come blasting at us with gale force winds, pelting rain and a whirl of debris being slung at us. Life throws lies in our faces, sin at our souls, unfaithfulness at our hearts and fear at our minds. When we find ourselves in the eye of the storm, when things get quiet and calm, some of us start scrambling around trying to collect the broken pieces so that no more gets thrown our way. Some of us curl up and hide like a scared child.

All we need to do when life brings us a storm is to face it with our Father, our Savior. Instead of trying to pick up the debris in an effort not to get hurt again, what we really need to be doing is kneeling in prayer.

The storms can take our houses. They can take our marriages, our jobs, our dignity and more.

The storms cannot take the fact that we are God’s children. They cannot take the fact the we have every lasting life by the blood of Christ.

The storms of life will rage on but we must take rest in our Lord.

The storms of life will rage on but we must have faith in His plan.

The storms of life will rage on but we must continue to pray.

Are you scrambling in the eye of the storm trying to protect yourself from flying debris? Take rest in the Lord and have faith that He will carry you through.

Today let’s just say our prayer again for our friends and families who are in the battle of the storm on the east coast.

I know during times like this we always say that our physical possessions are just “things” and we have to be thankful for the lives that are saved. I can’t help but to mourn all of the “things that so many people have lost. Please pray for their hearts to be settled for those things.
